Sung Kim, an adviser at South Korean law firm Bae, Kim & Lee (BLK), has been honored with the prestigious 2024 New American Hero Award by the Korea America Friendship Society for his contributions to diplomacy and community empowerment.
The award ceremony, held in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday, celebrated Kim's dedication to diplomatic service for the United States. The association cited Kim's efforts in enhancing the stature of Korean Americans and fostering their confidence in pursuing public service roles.
Established in 2000, the New American Hero Award is a testament to individuals who, as Korean immigrants, have significantly contributed to America's advancement.
Kim, who made history as the first Korean American to serve as the U.S. ambassador to South Korea, has a distinguished career. His roles include director of Korean affairs at the U.S. State Department, U.S. ambassador to Korea, the Philippines and Indonesia and the special representative for North Korea policy at the U.S. State Department.
Following his retirement from public service last year, Kim assumed leadership at BLK in January.
