Actress Kim Seo-hyung is set to play the lead role, Jung Seo-hyun, in tvN's upcoming series “Mine” after successfully leading the series “Nobody Knows” early last year, which ended with an 11.4 percent viewership rating.
“I picked up the script at first, wanting to find out the meaning of the title, Mine,” the actress said through the network Thursday. “I found it interesting how the story shows the charm of expressing one's true self… and the characters' journey to finding their identity.”
The mystery thriller series, which is slated to air from May 8, revolves around two women, Seo-hyun and Seo Hee-soo (Lee Bo-young), who marry into a chaebol ― a Korean term for a large family-owned conglomerate ― family. It follows the sisters-in-law battles against prejudice to find their own identity.
The series is written by Baek Mi-kyung, who is known for the TV series "Strong Girl Bong-soon" and "The Lady in Dignity," and is directed by Lee Na-jeong whose work includes Netflix's "Love Alarm."
Kim's character Seo-hyun also comes from a wealthy chaebol family and has become part of another family as its first daughter-in-law.
“Seo-hyun is exemplary and rational, but on the other side, she's also very sympathetic and sentimental,” Kim explained of her character. “She is brave enough to take chances and break away from things that restrict her... And in doing so, she shows courageousness.”
Adding that she intends to show a “spectrum of emotions” through the character, the actress said: “I hope to portray her struggles, sorrow, loneliness and sophistication hidden behind the tough shell she puts on to protect what's hers.”
The series will also star singer and actor Cha Hak-yeon, better known as N of K-pop group VIXX. He will play Seo-hyun's son who returns home after spending years abroad to study.
The series will air Saturdays and Sundays at 9 p.m.
