TV Chosun's audition show “Ms. Trot for Tomorrow” set a new rating record at 8.36 percent, Thursday.
The fourth episode of the show has topped the ratings among the programs broadcasted in the same time slot and garnered the highest viewership among all TV Chosun's programs aired since the cable broadcaster's establishment in 2011.
It has seen a steady rise in ratings since the premiere on Feb. 28. The first episode scored 5.89 percent.
“Ms. Trot for Tomorrow” is a survival competition show for aspiring trot singers, which aims to dig out young female talent who can lead the new heyday of the genre. Trot, also known as “Ppongjjak,” is a Korean music genre with repetitive rhythm and vocal techniques.
On Thursday's episode, 41 contestants went head to head. Included in the judge panels was a flagship trot singer Jang Yun-jeong who is reputed for her smash-hit song “Oh My” released in 2004.
“I want to revive Trot, the 'isolated' music genre. I expect many young people to watch the program too,” a producer of the show told YTN Star earlier.
“Ms. Trot for Tomorrow” airs at 10:00 p.m. (local time) every Thursday.
