Lady Gaga ousts Oprah as most influential figure: Forbes

Lady Gaga, the American singer known for her dashing wardrobe and eclectic personality, has ousted Oprah Winfrey, the “Queen of Talk Shows”, to become the most influential person in the world, according to a recent list published by Forbes.

The list of 100, compiled yearly, takes into account a celebrity’s income and level of immersion in social media to determine how much influence the celebrity has on popular culture.

The influence of social media played a large role in Lady Gaga’s success, Forbes said. “We measure social media power by looking at each celebrity’s presence on Facebook and Twitter,” the online magazine explained. The singer has 32 million fans on Facebook and more than 10 million Twitter followers ­ equal to the entire population of Seoul.

The second placer Oprah, however, is surveyed to have still maintained the lead in traditional media, such as radio and television.

Justin Bieber, the 17-year-old singer who skyrocketed to fame through YouTube, a popular video-sharing website, has come third. The American phenom holds the record for the highest number of views on a YouTube video, with nearly 550 million views for his first hit single, “Baby.” He also maintains a strong presence in social media, with slightly less than 10 million followers on Twitter.

Meanwhile, other notable figures on the list of“Celebrity 100” include Tiger Woods, the pro golfer, who managed to stay in the top 10 despite divorce following a sexual scandal with a woman. Leonardo DiCaprio, the American film actor, made a considerable jump from 71st to 15th place, thanks to starring in two of the year’s box office hits, Inception and Shutter Island.

Those who failed to be listed include Daniel Radcliffe, the star who played Harry Potter in the soon-to-conclude film series, and Britney Spears, the pop artist who has been eliminated from the list from the sixth place last year.

미국의 팝 가수 레이디 가가(Lady Gaga·25)가 미국 경제전문지 포브스가 선정한 엔터테인먼트 사업 부문 ‘올해의 영향력 있는 인물 100인’ 가운데 1위를 차지했다. 포브스는 레이디 가가가 ‘토크쇼의 여왕’ 오프라 윈프리(57)를 제치고 처음 1위로 올라섰다고 18일(현지시간) 보도했다.

포브스는 매년 엔터테인먼트 사업 관련 수입과 언론 노출 빈도, 소셜미디어 영향력 등을 집계해 영향력 있는 100인을 선정해 발표한다.

포브스는 “올해 선정에는 트위터·페이스북 등 소셜미디어 내 영향력이 반영됐다”고 설명했다. 가가는 최근 트위터 팔로어(구독자) 수가 1000만 명을 돌파했고, 페이스북 팬은 3000만 명에 달한다. 그가 앨범 ‘본 디스 웨이(Born this way)’를 공식발매 이전에 페이스북을 통해 먼저 공개하자 5일 만에 100만 명이 곡을 내려받기도 했다. 그는 지난해 월드투어 콘서트를 통해 9000만 달러(978억원)를 벌어들였다.

이달 말 20여 년간 진행해 온 ‘오프라 쇼’를 마치는 윈프리는 2위에 올랐다. 최근 7년간 4회나 1위를 차지한 그는 지난해 2억9000만 달러(3150억원)의 수입을 올렸다. 또 TV·라디오 등 전통 매체에서 여전히 가장 영향력 있는 인물인 것으로 조사됐다.

3위는 17세의 캐나다 출신 아이돌 가수 저스틴 비버가 차지했다. 그는 지난해 5300만 달러(575억원)를 벌어들였다. 록그룹 유투(U2)와 가수 엘턴 존(64)은 4위와 5위에 올랐다. 6위는 지난해 섹스 스캔들 이후 슬럼프를 겪고 있는 골프선수 타이거 우즈(36)가 차지했다.

그는 부진한 성적에도 지난해 7500만 달러(815억원)를 벌었다. 미국 일반인 대상 오디션 프로그램인 ‘아메리칸 아이돌’에서 독설가 심사위원으로 유명해진 사이먼 코웰은 9위에 올랐다.

배우 리어나도 디캐프리오는 지난해 71위였지만 최근 출연한 영화 ‘셔터아일랜드’와 ‘인셉션’ 등 2편의 영화가 흥행하면서 올해 15위로 순위가 급상승했다.

리얼리티 쇼 진행자로 활약한 부동산 재벌 도널드 트럼프는 17위에 올랐다. 지난해 6위였던 가수 브리트니 스피어스, 영화 ‘해리포터’ 시리즈에서 해리 역을 맡은 대니얼 레드클리프는 올해는 명단에서 제외됐다.
