Korean celebrities launched a flood of congratulatory social media messages after Team Korea's shock 2-0 win over defending champions Germany in the final group match at the World Cup in Russia Thursday.
“The match made me burst into tears despite our failure to progress to the second round, and it was the first time for Germany to be eliminated in the group stage,” Korean actor Yoon Kyun-sang, who starred in the 2017 TV series “The Rebel,” wrote. “I saw fighting spirit with my own naked eyes and hope people give more expectation and love to players who will further grow up.”

Actor Hong Suk-chun wrote: “I am so happy today.”
Singer Tony An, a member of first-generation boy band “H.O.T,” uploaded a photo of Son Heung-min scoring a goal, saying he felt like he was watching a film when Son kicked the second goal during injury time.
Actor Ryu Jun-yeol described the match as historic.
“The world has finally witnessed the Red Devils,” singer-actor Jung Ji-hoon, whose stage name is Rain, wrote. “I am so proud.”
Rising star Jung Hae-in also commented that “the national team did its best ― it really was the best!”
Seolhyun of AOA and comedienne Lee Kook-joo also celebrated the nation's victory.
