Korean-Nigerian model Bae Yu-jin, 16, wants to become famous, but her first wish is not to be compared with Han Hyun-min, a successful male model with the same racial background.

Ironically, she got her toe in the modeling business after being dubbed the “female version” of Han, a fashion model who was selected as one of “the 30 Most Influential Teens of 2017” by Time magazine.

But now she feels that comparison is blocking her from becoming more famous in her own name.

“Now there are people who recognize me,” said Bae. “I want to work harder so that I can be known as myself.”

Bae, who is 176 centimeters tall and made her debut last year, had been teased about her skin color when she was younger. But now she is being praised for being cool.

“Working as a model is exciting and interesting,” said Bae.

She said her long, slim legs were an advantage, but she does not want to grow anymore.

“My favorite dish is kimchi stew,” said Bae. “And I think my English is better than Han's, although writing in English is quite demanding.”
