Veteran trot singer traumatized after verbal attack

By Park Si-soo

Popular trot singer Song Dae-kwan, 70, is suffering trauma after a female singer’s manager verbally abused him.

“The manager all of a sudden started cursing Song, claiming he had ignored the (female) singer’s greeting,” Song’s aide said. The aide said the incident happened shortly after a music show was recorded at KBS on April 24. Song and the female singer featured in the show.

While the identities of the female singer and her manager remain unknown, they are believed to be many years younger than Song.

“The two (Song and the manager) were separated by surrounding people,” the aide said. “Had they not stepped in, a fight would have broken out.”

Song was diagnosed with acute depression after the incident, according to reports. Song was quoted as saying, “My mental health is bad enough to for me to be in hospital. But I have delayed (going to hospital) to meet my scheduled obligations.”

Song said he had “received no formal apology from the manager as yet.”

He said the issue was “unlikely to be settled peacefully.”
