Album commemorates Sewol victims

An album of traditional Korean music will be released April 16 to commemorate the third anniversary of the tragic Sewol ferry sinking, record label Akdang announced Tuesday.

All proceeds from the studio album’s sales will be donated to the victims’ families.

The album, titled “Mi-An,” is comprised of two discs with 14 tracks of diverse genres, including new traditional music, court music, sanjo (freestyle solo), classical music and new age.

Various musicians volunteered to help produce the tracks to commemorate the victims.

The first disc features familiar pieces, such as Brahms’ “Four Serious Songs,” Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise” and Tchaikovsky’s “The Seasons, June.”

The second disc includes original compositions, such as “Goodbye My Friend,” “Picnic” and “Starlight in Night Sky,” expressing sorrow for the victims.

The album tracks are also available on odaeo.com free of charge.
