K-pop girl group Brave Girls released its third mini-album “High Heels,” just four months after its last release “Deepened,” holding a showcase performance for the press at Ilchi Art Hall in Gangnam, southern Seoul, Monday. This time, Brave Girls sought to change everything from their music style to their costumes, aiming to top the music charts.
It has been five years since the group debuted with five members under the record label Brave Entertainment led by hit-song maker Brave Brothers. Many thought it would only be a matter of time for the girl band to gain popularity, similar to Starship Entertainment’s successful act Sistar which found success with songs written by Brave Brothers such as “Push Push,” “So Cool,” and “Alone.”
However, Brave Girls failed to gain recognition as one of the top girl groups and took a four-year break after releasing their second mini-album in February 2012. When the girls finally returned this February with the digital single “Deepened,” three members had left and five new bandmates joined to make a new seven-member girl group. Two original members, Yoojin and Hyeran, are joined by Minyeong, Yujeong, Eunji, Yuna and Hayun.
“We have changed a lot in four years,” said Hyeran during the press showcase. “We made it to the top of the chart as soon as we released new songs back then, but it’s not been so easy to do these days. Even TV music shows work differently now and we decided to get rid of our greed but still try the best we can.”
“I’m not anxious now but I was heavily worried during the hiatus,” said Yujin. “I really wanted to return to the stage too. The band went through member changes and we are trying a new concept in our new album. It’s fun and I want to enjoy it.”
New member Hayun added that she feels more burdened than she felt four months ago but she will do her best thanks to the support of the original members.
Brave Girls’ new album consists of five songs, including the title track “High Heels” written and arranged by Brave Brothers. The dance song features a strong electric guitar base with a powerful rhythm and a brass melody. It is the first time for Brave Girls to try a sexy concept while exuding a lively feeling to it.
“It was hard for me to adjust to the sexy concept as I am more of a girlish person with smiles all the time. But I took the chance to become a sexy diva,” said Yujeong.
The other feature songs include “Help Me,” “Whatever,” “Mistaken Love,” and “Deepened” that cover various genres such as dance, R&B and acoustic pop.
Hyeran said she wants to go further this time than she did with the band’s digital single in February, which made the 100 online music chart but disappeared quickly.
The girl band also promised to release special video footage if its music video for “High Heels” receives over 500,000 views online.
