●Question 1. Sentence Correction

Direction: Correct the underlined part

Unlike psychiatrists, who are trained as medical doctors, psychologists have historically been forbidden from prescribing their patients drugs, but in 2002 New Mexico began to grant the privilege of prescribing to licensed, doctoral level psychologists who complete an additional training and certification program.

A. psychologists have historically been forbidden from prescribing their patients drugs, but in 2002 New Mexico began to grant the privilege of prescribing

B. psychologists have historically been forbidden to prescribe drugs for their patients, but in 2002 New Mexico began granting prescribing privileges

C. psychologists have historically been forbidden to prescribe their patients drugs, but in 2002 in New Mexico, the privilege to prescribe began to be granted

D. historically psychologists have been forbidden from prescribing their patients drugs, but in 2002 New Mexico began to grant the privilege of prescribing

E. historically psychologists have been forbidden from prescribing drugs for their patients, but in 2002 in New Mexico, they began granting prescribing privileges

●Question 2. Critical Reasoning

Many people suffer an allergic reaction to certain sulfites, including those that are commonly added to wine as preservatives. However, since there are several wine makers who add sulfites to none of the wines they produce, people who would like to drink wine but are allergic to sulfites can drink wines produced by these wine makers without risking an allergic reaction to sulfites.

Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?

A. These wine makers have been able to duplicate the preservative effect produced by adding sulfites by means that do not involve adding any potentially allergenic substances to their wine.

B. Not all forms of sulfite are equally likely to produce the allergic reactions.

C. Wine is the only beverage to which sulfites are commonly added.

D. Apart from sulfites, there are no substances commonly present in wine that give rise to an allergic reaction.

E. Sulfites are not naturally present in the wines produced by these wine makers in amounts large enough to produce an allergic reaction in someone who drinks these wines.

●Question 3. Data Sufficiency

Directions: In this problem, a question is followed by two statements containing certain data. You are to determine whether the data provided by the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Choose the correct answer based upon the statement’s data and your knowledge of mathematics.

Is |a-b|>0?

1) a and b are nonnegative integers. 2) a is odd and b is even.

A. statement 1 alone is sufficient, but statement 2 alone is not sufficient to answer the question

B. statement 2 alone is sufficient, but statement 1 alone is not sufficient to answer the question

C. both statements taken together are sufficient to answer the question, but neither statement alone is sufficient

D. each statement alone is sufficient

E. statements 1 and 2 together are not sufficient, and additional data is needed to answer the question

●Question 4. Problem Solving

If a and b are positive integers and 189a=b2, what is the smallest value of a?

A. 12 B. 21 C. 45 D. 49 E. 51

●Answer to Q1: B

The answer choices of A, D, and E are committing the same error in terms of using the verb ‘forbid.’ Specifically, ‘from prescribing’ should be changed into ‘to prescribe’ for the correct idiom of the verb. Then, in contrast to B, C is using the needless passive voice in the clause led by the conjunction ‘but.’ So, the answer is B.

●Answer to Q2: E

The statement is saying that wine makers only can add sulfites to wine as preservatives. In this context, if sulfites are naturally present in the wines produced by wine makers, people who would like to drink wine without risking an allergic reaction to sulfites can’t drink wines produced by wine makers who didn’t add any sulfites to wine as preservatives because they can simply be allergic to sulfites. Therefore, E is showing the assumption on which the statement depends.

●Answer to Q3: B

1) a=b=2 NO, a=3, b=2 Yes, NOT SUFFICIENT, 2) a-b=odd-even=non—zero, SUFFICIENT, therefore the best answer is B.

●Answer to Q4: B

189=3^3*7, because 189a=b^2, (3^2)*21a=b^2, therefore b=21, the best anser is B.
