UiPath is seeking to increase the number of corporate clients for its robotics process automation (RPA) tools as more companies are trying to improve the overall performance of their employees and achieve cost savings by automating mundane tasks, the company said Thursday.

RPA is a technology to help organizations easily automate their routine work. The U.S.-based software firm has the largest market share in the sector.

The company launched its Korean unit in February 2018 and has been trying to increase the number of its customer companies here.

Baek Seung-heon, customer success director at the Korean unit, said private financial companies such as Hana Financial Group and KB Financial Group and major conglomerates such as Hyundai, LG and Lotte are increasingly adopting its RPA software tools.

“Though Korea is a bit behind the United States in terms of RPA adoption rate many private financial companies and major conglomerates are increasing their use of UiPath RPA tools,” Baek told reporters during a press conference at COEX in Seoul.

“Among them, Lotte E-commerce is actively adopting UiPath's tools because both the CEO of the company and its employees have felt the need for our tool,” he added.

More companies here are seeking to use its products because its software empowers them to achieve substantial savings by automating time-consuming human tasks, Baek elaborated. “About 40 percent of the activities the organizations' employees are paid to do can be automated using RPA tools,” he said.

While its products are mainly used to perform tasks that require very little human judgment, the company added LG Uplus, the mobile carrier of LG Group, is expanding the scope by using them to control network operations management.

“While many firms are using our tools for back office jobs, more companies are adopting them for front-office work. For instance, LG Uplus is using an RPA tool to control on-site work of its network operations,” Lee Jae-won, customer success manager of UiPath Korea, said.

Regarding the Korean unit's performance in the public organization sector, Baek said the company doesn't have any contracts with public agencies here but added he expects that there could be a growing need for its RPA tools in the near future.

“We don't have customers in public organizations in Korea. But soon they will recognize the need to adopt RPA tools. For instance, I expect the military could become our first client among public agencies because it is in need of automating administrative work due to a recruiting decline,” Baek said.
