LSIS, the nation’s leading electric equipment manufacturer, said Thursday that it has been named a global innovator for its leadership in the electric power industry.
Thomson Reuters picked LSIS as one of the “Top 100 Global Innovators” for its aggressive drive into registering more intellectual properties in areas regarding power systems.
“Intellectual properties are the key indicator showing our technological competitiveness and innovation,” LSIS Chairman Koo Ja-kyun said in a statement. “We will diversify our business portfolio focusing on expanding our intellectual properties throughout the entire business division.”
The company said it has registered for more than 2,200 patents globally for its power and energy systems over the past five years. In particular, LSIS is betting big on research and development into smart grids, which the company has identified as its next growth area. A smart grid is an electricity supply system equipped with information technology (IT), enabling efficient energy management with remote control systems.
LSIS has been included in the index for five consecutive years. In particular, the company was honored in “Electric Power” which Thomson newly added for this year’s list.
The company added that it will keep research and development as a priority to achieve sustainable growth, and make more than six percent of sales from the area
An LSIS official said, “LSIS and French-based electricity company Alstom are the only two companies included in the Electric Power category, which shows our brand value in the global electricity market.”
The company attributed the performance to the quality of its patents, including successful patent registration rate and frequency of patent quotation.
After the company chief took office in 2008, the company shifted its focus into registering patents for its next-generation smart energy systems.
The nation’s top-tier manufacturer of electrical equipment said it will expand its lineup to become the world’s leading smart energy systems provider. Toward that end, the company has converged key energy-saving systems, including energy storage and energy management systems.
