LS Cable & System (LS C&S) will provide power cables for installation in eco-friendly vehicles made by China’s Dongfeng Motor Corp.
As the primary partner of China’s second-largest carmaker, LS C&S will mass-produce the high-voltage harness cables at its Chinese subsidiary in Wuxi, Jiangsu. The cables will be used for Dongfeng’s E30 electric vehicle from May.
The company said Wednesday it expected to supply cables for more than 100,000 vehicles by 2020 because the Chinese government is promoting the eco-friendly car industry.
The Chinese state-run carmaker is strengthening the electric car business in Wuhan and developing more vehicles to extend its range.
“We have developed tailor-made products and improved their quality to meet Dongfeng Motor’s requirement,” said Yun Jae-in, head of the sales and marketing group at LS C&S. “We believe this has helped us become the primary supplier.
“We expect more deals by sharing vehicle development road maps and hope to gain momentum in China’s automobile market.”
Harness cables connect a car’s electronic control system to the communication module and supply power to operate sensors.
LS C&S developed the high-voltage harness cable in 2009.
In 2012, it entered into a 120 billion won supply deal with BYD Daimler New Technology (BDNT), an electric car joint corporation between Germany’s Daimler-Benz and China’s BYD.
To supply the high-voltage cables to BDNT, the company said it had invested 4 billion won in the Wuxi subsidiary to expand manufacturing facilities.
