Samsung Biologics saw sales surpass 3 trillion won last year, becoming the first in the domestic biopharmaceutical industry to achieve that mark. Its operating profit also neared 1 trillion won, the company said in a filing, Friday.
The company announced that it achieved annual consolidated sales of 3.001 trillion won ($2.54 billion) and an operating profit of 983.6 billion won in 2022.
Compared to 2021, sales increased by 1.43 trillion won, or 91 percent, and operating profit increased 446.3 billion won, or 83 percent. The sharp rise in profitability comes from increased orders, a rising plant utilization rate, and external expansion following the full incorporation of Samsung Bioepis as a subsidiary.
Samsung Bioepis achieved sales of 946.3 billion won and an operating profit of 231.5 billion won. Compared to 2021, sales increased by 99.3 billion won, or 12 percent, and operating profit rose by 38.8 billion won, or 20 percent, on the expansion of biosimilar products sales in the global market.
