Exports electronic customs clearance system to Tanzania

Korea's customs agency said Tuesday it has signed a $19.61 million deal to export its electronic customs clearance system to Tanzania, securing a foothold in the African continent to sell its e-government knowhow.

Under the deal with its counterpart in the African country, the Korea Customs Service said it will establish its "UNI-PASS," an electronic clearance portal system that provides easy and fast clearance procedures for both outbound and inbound goods.

South Korea started to sell the system in 2005 and its export to Tanzania brings its cumulative overseas sales to about $100 million, the agency said.

This contract comes after the customs agency signed a memorandum of understanding with Tanzania in July last year to cooperate in modernizing its customs-related administrative efficiency.

"We will make use of the deal with Tanzania as a chance to advance into other African countries and accelerate the exports of our UNI-PASS system down the road," said an official of the customs agency. (Yonhap)
