D-Cube City becomes key Seoul landmark
By Yoon Ja-young
D-Cube City, an integrated property development located in Sindorim, southwestern Seoul, consisting of a shopping mall, cultural facilities, a hotel, and restaurants as well as a park, has become a landmark in a district that previously had few attractive places to boast of.
Mapped out by Jerde of the United States and Mori of Japan, which developed Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, D-Cube City infuses the neighborhood with modern, sleek designs. The department store is laid out as a circle instead of a rectangle, cutting the distance the shoppers have to walk with green scenery in the park outside.
“Water flow” is an aesthetic theme. While walking on the main floor of the department store, shoppers can see a gigantic indoor waterfall that starts from the sixth floor. There are also soothing ponds located around the mall.
It is the first local indoor shopping mall to offer ZARA, H&M and UNIQLO, the top three global specialty retailers of private label apparel (SPA) brands that have been leading the fast-fashion boom. The 2,168-square meter ZARA shop at D-Cube is the biggest in the country. Also first to accommodate other global brands such as Bershka, Pull & Bear, Glad News and Kathy Van Zeeland, shoppers and tourists alike will be impressed with the choices and the atmosphere as they make their purchases.
D-Cube City is especially attractive as it provides fun options for all family members. The cafeterias, accommodating around 5,000 people, offer some 4,000 dishes from around the world, and the Pororo Theme Park, featuring the popular animation character Pororo, is especially pleasing for parents looking for places to visit with their children. Set up with a 4.3 billion won investment, it has an indoor play park, 3D theater, stage and shopping mall featuring the penguin.
Young people and those interested in the arts can visit the D-Cube Art Center that can accommodate 1,242 people and has a stage for diverse cultural performances.
The Sheraton Seoul D-Cube City Hotel is another convenient feature for the neighborhood. Located from the 27th to 41st floors of the building, the hotel has 269 bedrooms, a grand ball room that can hold over 900 guests, and is a suitable venue for a wide range of events. Its main lobby is located on the 41st floor offering an impressive view of Seoul.
