Top 3 to head to Japan

Shinhan Financial Group said Wednesday that its chairman Ra Eung-chan, CEO Shin Sang-hoon and Shinhan Bank CEO Lee Baek-soon will fly to Nagoya in Japan to give to Korean-Japanese shareholders a briefing about the internal feuding triggered by the bank’s criminal filing against Shin for alleged involvement in embezzlement and inappropriate lending

It added that both the group and Shin will separately have a chance to explain their stance about the accusation and seek to garner the support from Korean-Japanese, who have a combined ownership of 17 percent in the group and hold the casting vote to hold a board meeting and dismiss Shin.

“Korean-Japanese shareholders and outside directors will meet in Nagoya to listen to explanations from both sides and discuss dismissal of Shin,” a Shinhan spokesperson said.

“The bank will give a full explanation about why it referred Shin to the prosecution. If it suggests mediation by proposing a suspension of Shin’s duties, they will also discuss the issue,” he added. “The date for a board meeting will be announced after the briefing.”

The internal feuding at Shinhan took a new turn as one of four Korean-Japanese outside directors ruled out the possibility of dismissing CEO Shin Tuesday, hinting that they will all vote against the group’s move to oust him.

신한금융지주 라응찬 회장과 신상훈 사장, 이백순 신한은행장 등 신한금융지주의 빅3가 9일 일본을 전격 방문해 재일동포 주주와 이사들을 대상으로 신한은행의 신사장 고소로 촉발된 내분사건에 대한 설명회를 개최한다.

신한금융과 신 사장은 재일동포 주주와 이사들을 상대로 신한은행의 신 사장 고소 건과 관련해 상반된 입장을 설명하고 지지를 요청할 것으로 보인다. 재일동포 주주의 지분은 17프로에 달하며 신상훈 사장 해임의 캐스팅 보트를 쥐고 있다.

신한지주 관계자는 "일본에 있는 주주와 이사들이 내일 나고야에서 열리는 설명회에 참석해 신한은행의 신 사장 고소 사태를 논의할 계획"이라며 "은행측이 신 사장을 고소한 이유를 설명하고, 직무정지 등 중재안을 제시할 경우 이 문제도 논의가 이뤄질 것으로 예상된다. 설명회 이후 이사회 일정이 결정될 예정이다 "고 밝혔다
