Hana Financial Group donates $11 mil. to the underprivileged

Hana Financial Group donated 15 billion won ($11.4 million) to the Community Chest of Korea, so as to fulfill its social responsibility as a financial business and for the mutual prosperity of the community and the group, the financial group announced on Tuesday.

According to Hana, the group chairman, Ham Young-joo, delivered the 15 billion won donation to the socially vulnerable, including families in crisis, children and teenagers, senior citizens, and people with disabilities, at the Hope 2024 Sharing Campaign held at the Community Chest of Korea's headquarters in downtown Seoul.

The donation was funded by 15 affiliated companies within the group as a part of efforts to help create a sustainable future. Hana Financial Group's total donations so far this year stand at 98.5 billion won.

"We hope it could bring hope and courage to our socially challenged neighbors," Ham said. "We will continue fulfilling our social responsibility to practice the group's mission of growing together and sharing happiness in finance, and to create a society where everyone can be happy,” he added.

Hana Financial Group has been focusing on creating social values, including supporting marginalized groups. It has been practicing genuine environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) management through diverse activities such as support for startups, youth internships, support for socially innovative firms, reemployment for the middle-aged, assistance for small business owners, environmental education amidst the climate crisis and engagement in sports and cultural activities.
