CJ Group has reshuffled the CEOs of its key subsidiaries as the newly appointed leaders have proven their capabilities, the group said Friday.
Kang Sin-ho, who had been CEO of CJ Logistics, has become the new head of CJ CheilJedang, the group's food product arm. Shin Young-soo, who used to be in charge of CJ Logistics' domestic business, has become the company's new CEO.
Kang, after becoming CJ Logistics' CEO in 2021, restructured the company operations and drastically changed the organizational culture. The result was reflected in the company's performance in 2023 when its operating profit logged 480 billion won ($360 million), the highest figure in its history.
In the group's latest leadership reshuffle, Kang has also clinched the group's vice chairman title. It is unprecedented for a CJ employee who stepped in through open recruitment to climb the ladder to the position. Kang entered the group in 1988 as a member of its HR bureau.
Shin had previously introduced a new business model with a brand called O-NE and proved its strength in the logistics and e-commerce sectors. It helped his division log a new sales record last year.
"Our latest reshuffle shows that where there is a performance there is a promotion regardless of age or experience," a CJ official said.
The reshuffle has also appointed 19 other new leaders. CJ Logistics and CJ Olive Young, a beauty and hygiene product arm, saw the highest number of promotions with six and four, respectively. CJ Chairman Lee Jay-hyun last month visited the subsidiaries' business operation sites and praised their performances.
