Hyundai Motor achieved a "Triple Podium," in which Hyundai World Rally Team players took the first, second and third places in the 11th tournament of the 2022 World Rally Championship (WRC) season held in Greece from Sept. 8 to 11 (local time), the company announced, Monday.
The Acropolis Rally returned to the WRC after eight years last year and was held at significant Greek landmarks such as the Parthenon, a symbol of ancient Greek culture.
The championship went to Thierry Neuville, who competed in Hyundai's i20 N Rally1 race car. Neuville won the match and gave the team their fourth trophy, while his teammate Ott Tanak placed second 15 seconds behind.
Tanak won the rally in Italy, Finland and Belgium this season, finishing second in the rally in Greece and maintaining second place in the drivers' overall ranking.
Dani Sordo, another Hyundai World Rally Team member, also ended in third place.
With this win, the Hyundai World Rally Team gained a total of 48 points, greatly reducing the point gap with first place in the overall ranking of manufacturers.
The WRC is the world's top motorsport competition organized by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The champions in the manufacturer and driver categories are determined based on the results of the annual race in various environments, from paved roads to unpaved roads to snowy roads.
Hyundai Motor is participating with the i20 N Rally1 race car, which is equipped with a 100kW electric motor and 1.6L four-cylinder engine.
