Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics will showcase their new gadgets featuring enhanced energy-saving technologies at the IFA consumer electronics exhibition in Berlin in order to appeal more to European consumers facing soaring energy prices amid extreme heat waves and other climate-change-related challenges, the companies said Thursday.
The annual IFA exhibition will be held in Berlin, from Friday to Tuesday, featuring 2,059 exhibitors from 48 countries. The event organizer expects around 180,000 visitors from 144 countries to visit the event.
A day before the event was to be held, the two companies unveiled their promotional booths showcasing new products and technologies. During the event, Samsung and LG will showcase products that utilize eco-friendly technologies, device-to-device connectivity and AI technology under the themes of “Connection that matters” and “Sustainable Life, Joy for All,” respectively.
Samsung has set up a 6,026 square meter booth at the exhibition venue, the largest one among the exhibitors and said it is focusing on showing its SmartThings IoT experience, which emphasizes organic connectivity between products.
Emphasizing that SmartThings, an app for connecting devices, supports Matter and HCA and technology standards for IoT connectivity of other products, Samsung installed the SmartThings zone around the themes of home control, security, health, wellness and entertainment. In the health and wellness zone, Samsung Food, a service that uses AI technology to personalize various recipes and link to e-commerce services, will also be unveiled.
At Samsung's booth, SmartThings-based energy-saving solutions will also be unveiled. Examples include the carbon intensity insight feature, which allows users to consume energy at the least carbon-intensive times based on their environment, and the auto-demand response (Auto-DR) feature, which makes it easy to reduce home energy usage based on power demand.
The company will also display a washing machine that saves 40 percent energy compared to products that receive the highest class in the EU energy label rating system. Also, its Galaxy mobile devices such as the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be on display.

LG's booth showcases the LG Smart Cottage, a small modular home that incorporates highly efficient energy technologies such as a solar panel roof that generates energy, heating and a cooling system with a thermally-efficient heat pump and the StandbyME GO, a movable TV that can be packed into a briefcase, which is a suitable display product for campers.
In addition, the company said visitors will be able to experience new high-efficiency home appliances and energy solutions for the European market, including washers, dryers, refrigerators and dishwashers, at its Netzero vision house. Visitors will also be able to experience energy control and management technologies in a variety of situations, including sunny days, early evenings and power outages.
Another interesting point in this year's IFA is that both Samsung and LG are unveiling all-in-one products that have washer and dryer features in one device.
Samsung's is called the Bespoke Grande AI washer dryer and LG's is known as the LG Signature Washer-Dryer, which combines a 25 kilogram capacity washer and a 13 kilogram dryer all into one unit, respectively.
They said their new products can wash and dry clothes in one machine, making efficient use of laundry room space and eliminating the inconvenience of moving laundry to a dryer.
