Naver will provide upgraded search, shopping and other services through its hyperscale AI platform HyperCLOVA X, as well as AI services to help business customers be more productive, the IT company said Thursday.

“HyperCLOVA X, an advanced AI model, improves users' productivity and competitiveness. The platform is built to help individuals and businesses be more productive and will serve as the most convenient tool to increase efficiency,” Nako Sung, head of Technology at Naver Cloud, introduced the company's latest hyperscale AI platform HyperCLOVA X during a conference in Seoul.

During the conference, Naver introduced its hyperscale AI-powered large language model (LLM) HyperCLOVA X. It also unveiled new services based on HyperCLOVA X, including CLOVA X, a conversational AI service that is available from Thursday, and Cue:, a generative AI search service that will debut in September.

CLOVA X can provide a variety of answers such as creation, summarization, reasoning, translation and coding, enabling what it calls “multi-turn conversations” where questions are asked and answered one after another. In particular, Naver added that CLOVA X is able to connect its internal and external services to provide an enhanced service experience, which makes it easier to access various vertical services.

Entering pilot service in September, Cue: is able to understand long, complex queries with multiple intentions and deliver three-dimensional search results with up-to-date information needed to generate answers, the company elaborated.

Naver will also launch generative AI-based tools for its partners, including merchants, creators and advertisers. They are GLOVA for Writing, an AI-based writing tool that can provide creators with a new content creation experience and CLOVA for AD, a generative AI-based advertising platform for advertisers.

Speaking on the strengths of CLOVA X in comparison with other generative AI services, Sung said its service is specialized for Korean users.

“Built on HyperCLOVA X, a language model that best understands Korean culture and context, CLOVA X has the best understanding of Korean people,” Sung said. “Let's use CLOVA X to plan a trip. If you ask for a place to go with your child on Jeju Island, it recommends travel destinations based on the latest information. If you say I want to rent a car near the airport, it recommends a child-friendly rental car and lets you make a reservation at a third-party service. CLOVA X is quickly connecting with all these different services and is easily and quickly scalable to connect with many more.”

Kim Young-bum, chief scientist of Naver, said that the search service, which is the foundation of all of Naver's services, will be enhanced by applying the generative AI service Cue: to provide better search services.

“Cue: connects more than 50 services, including shopping, local, knowledge, maps, and weather. It shows rich and three-dimensional answers to users' questions. It also provides users with an endpoint to help them fulfill the purpose of their search. For example, if a user asks a question about shopping, it can connect them to a purchase, or if they search for a place, it can help them find information and make a reservation,” Kim said.
