LG Electronics said Wednesday that it will showcase non-fungible token (NFT) technology-based digital shoes and its latest shoe care devices, Styler ShoeCase and Styler ShoeCare, at next year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
The CES is arguably the world's largest IT show, which is held in Las Vegas. The 2023 event will take place from Jan. 5 to Jan. 8.
LG said its Monster Shoes is a virtual shoe made using NFT technology. Customers can collect 5,500 kinds of uniquely designed digital shoes via the company's internet of things (IoT) mobile app, LG ThingQ. The company co-developed the digital shoes together with students at Induk University's Game & VR Design Department.
In addition to the digital shoes, the company will also display its shoe care devices ― the Styler ShoeCase and the Styler ShoeCare. Both devices were unveiled at the IFA 2022 tech show held in Germany in September.
The Styler ShoeCase is a high-tech shoe storage box that maintains optimal humidity and temperature, while the Styler ShoeCare controls the moisture and smell in shoes using hygiene-enhancing TrueSteam technology.
Both products are made of recycled plastic as part of the company's efforts to tackle climate change. The two devices will go on sale in the Korean market in the first half of 2023.
Baek Seung-tae, head of LG's Living Appliance division, said the company "aims to deliver a differentiated customer experience with the Styler ShoeCase and the Styler ShoeCare as well as the special shoes."
