Kolmar Korea is expanding its presence in both local and overseas markets by establishing a new artificial intelligence (AI) production base in Korea to better penetrate the global market, according to the company, Wednesday.
The company is establishing a new cosmetics production base with AI technology in Sejong so as to actively respond to the recent easing of face mask rules, which is expected to boost cosmetics sales.
Kolmar announced that it would secure a site of around 58,895 square meters, the size of eight soccer fields, and build a cosmetics factory capable of producing 220 million products a year. An eco-friendly logistics center will also be built onsite. Construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of this year and be completed by 2024.
When the factory is completed, Kolmar Korea's existing domestic basic and color cosmetics production capacity will increase to 807 million products per year, improving production capacity by 80 percent.
The most important aspect is the design of the new plant to maximize productivity, the reason artificial intelligence technology is being applied to the production process. The key is to find the optimal process with the lowest defect rate through AI big data analysis, and standardize the procedures for each item, according to the company.
A halal management system is also established in the factory to better prepare for demand in the Middle East and Southeast Asian cosmetics markets, which have recently been showing high growth potential.
An eco-friendly logistics center will also be established and operated with 100 percent renewable energy to protect the environment. The roof of the building will be covered with photovoltaic power generation facilities.
In addition, the company will introduce a warehouse management system that enables monitoring and management of inventory location and defect status in real-time. It enables workers to manage inventory in real-time through their smart devices.
"The newly built production base will provide products manufactured with the highest quality through an optimized process to 900 domestic and foreign clients," an official from Kolmar Korea said. "We plan to make it a key base for the future global market that Kolmar is aiming to penetrate."
