In the past, a website was all a company needed to boost its online presence. Now, with the immense popularity of smartphones, companies are scrambling to make their presence felt in the mobile arena.
SK Group has recognized the importance of reaching out to smartphone users and has unveiled a new mobile website in Korea, http://m.sk.co.kr.
The group hopes to meet the demands of the growing number of smartphone-using customers who can access the new website, anytime and anywhere.
``Opening the mobile website will reach three million smartphone users in this age of speedy information, access and convenience,’’ said Kwon Oh-yong, executive vice president Brand Management office of SK Holdings.
SK’s mobile website uses a simple icon style interface, designed to load easily with the phone’s internet connection. It has various sections including an introduction to SK, branch locations, contact information and announcements of various company events.
For investors, the mobile site also includes a section on SK-related news and financial information. Young job-seekers can peruse its listing of job opportunities within the conglomerate.
Predictably, SK’s mobile website was specifically designed to be compatible with the Android mobile platform. SK Telecom distributes Samsung Electronics’ latest Android-run smartphone Galaxy S, which is in stiff competition with Apple’s iPhone.
To mark the renewal of its website (www.sk.co.kr) and the introduction of its mobile website, SK is holding a series of promotional events this month. Participants can win prizes, such as SK vouchers and a trip to Jeju Island.
SK Group includes companies involved in energy and chemicals; information and telecommunications; trading and services; and life science-related businesses.
