Google has sold about 10 million Chromecast, a streaming-media dongle for high-definition (HD) TVs, globally in 2014, Google Korea said Wednesday.
Chromecast, which made its debut in July 2013, now supports more than 350 apps and services, including YouTube, Tving and Hoppin in Korea.
It started selling the device in Korea in May 2014, the first marketing debut in the Asian market.
Chromecast is an adapter that plugs into a television and allows users to mirror content such as videos, music, photos and apps from a computer, tablet or smartphone onto a TV screen.
When the USB-sized dongle plugs into HDTVs, users can stream Google's browser from their smart devices over their Wi-Fi networks. Google recently added a multi-tasking feature so users can also engage in other functions such as sending text messages while playing content on TV.
According to Google, more than 6,000 developers are actively developing more than 10,000 cast-enabled apps across Android, iOS, and Chrome.
