"We've chosen Kim in recognition of his efforts for the successful hosting of the Olympics," the association said Monday, announcing this year's recipients of the Korea PR Awards.
Kim, 57, has served as the president of Collabo K, the integrated marketing service brand of KPR, one of the country's major public relations companies, since 2015.
He worked as the executive vice president of games planning and communication on the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Kim was recognized for promoting major Olympic events including the torch relay, the opening and closing ceremonies, and cultural programs. He also staged an online campaign, "Hello PyeongChang," to publicize the Winter Games and communicate better with the public.
Kim, a veteran public relations expert with more than 30 years of experience, became the 30th winner of the annual title which the association initiated in 1993. He is well-versed in integrated marketing communications, sports marketing and event management.
He was special executive for PR and sports promotion at Cheil, Samsung Group's marketing subsidiary, where he worked for 27 years.
The award ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at The Plaza Seoul. This year's grand prize will go to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) in recognition for its publicity program to prevent and treat tuberculosis among the elderly.
