Nintendo Korea is to show off the Korean version of its popular video game player Wii next month.
The company said Wednesday that it will hold a launching conference on April 14 at the ballroom of Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul. The firm refused to confirm the actual release date, but it has been believed to target May 5 Children's Day.
Wii is currently the most popular game player in the world, with more than 20 million units sold worldwide in only 14 months until last December. Nintendo hasn't sold it in Korea, citing various reasons such as worldwide supply shortage and worries of software piracy in Korea.
The Korean game industry had been dominated by online games that run on personal computers. But Nintendo has successfully penetrated the market with its portable game console Nintendo DS, which has sold more than 1 million units since January 2007.
