Local home appliance brand Coway began full operation of its manufacturing plant in Gongju, South Chungcheong Province, to meet rising demand of its new “Icon” ice-making water purifier, the company said Friday.

The product's quality has been a hot topic among consumers here since its launch in June. Plus, the continuous heat wave that has beset Korea this summer has led to a further surge in its sales. In July, the company's water filter sales jumped by 30 percent, year-on-year.

Coway downsized the ice-making water purifier's size by 40 percent compared to its previous model for better use in a small kitchens. It is currently the smallest size ice-making water purifier made in Korea.

The company also adopted innovative ice-making technology in its product to make more ice, faster. It completes a freeze cycle every 12 minutes and the water purifier can produce up to 600 ice cubes per day, which is more than enough for a family to enjoy during the summer.

In addition, customers can choose the size of the ice cubes they want to make with Coway's new water purifier in accordance with the purpose or food they want to prepare.

“We have seen a number of consumers looking for ice-making water purifiers due to the recent heat wave in the country and highly growing demand for premium home appliances.
