HanmiGlobal secured a construction project management order from SK Nexilis, a chemical and materials company under SK Group, to manage the construction of a copper foil plant in Poland, the company announced, Wednesday.
Copper foil is a thin film made of copper using advanced processing technology, and is a key material for anodes in electric vehicle batteries. Construction of the copper foil plant will start this year and is expected to be completed in 2024.
The plant will be built in an industrial complex near Stalowa Wola, about 200 kilometers southeast of Warsaw, the capital of Poland, with a total project cost of over 900 billion won. After completion, it is scheduled to produce 50,000 tons of copper foil annually.
SK Nexilis plans to increase its copper foil production to 250,000 tons per year in 2025 by increasing its global production base through the Polish plant.
HanmiGlobal plans to carry out overall project management, including contract management, process management, construction management, quality control, cost management and commissioning.
"In order to fully resume overseas business, which had been halted temporarily due to COVID-19, we established a U.S. subsidiary in Portland, Oregon, in January, followed by a subsidiary in Zesup, Poland, this month," a HanmiGlobal official said. "The Polish subsidiary is the second Eastern European subsidiary after Hungary, and we plan to expand our entry into the Eastern European market."
