Riot Games is expanding the use of characters from its famous five-on-five online battle game "League of Legends," announcing different games that feature popular "League" characters, the U.S. company said Wednesday.

The company introduced the online battle game in 2009 and now "League" has become one of the most popular esports competitions, garnering 9.9 million fans around the world for the final match of the 2018 World Championships.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of its launch, the company held media events simultaneously around the world and unveiled a series of new games such as an online card game "Legends of Runeterra,"; "League of Legends: Wild Rift," a mobile version of "League,"; a shooting game tentatively called "Project A"; and a fighting game called "Project L."

Among these new products, Riot Games said the online card game is scheduled to hit the market in 2020 after undergoing a beta testing period. The game will be released both in mobile and PC formats.

In addition, the company also announced that it is making an animated film "Arcane" which revolves around popular characters in "League." The film is expected to be released in 2020.

The company said the animated version is in line with its effort to get more people familiar with the "League" universe.

Park Jun-kyu, country head of Riot Games Korea, expressed his gratitude towards Korean gamers for their support for the game.

"For the past 10 years, we have experienced a slew of changes while servicing League of Legends, but one thing that will not change is our deep affection and passion for players. We will never forget these original intentions and will spare no efforts," Park said.
