McDonald's Korea has brought back its seasonal “Prosperity Burger” to benefit children suffering from serious diseases and their family members caring for them.
The American fast food restaurant chain has been selling the Prosperity Burger every year here since 2013 and donating 100 won per burger sold. The money collected will be sent to the Ronald McDonald House Charity (RMHC) Korea, which operates accommodations built for the families of hospitalized pediatric patients at medical centers located far from their homes.
This year, McDonald's Korea introduced two versions of the burger: the existing Prosperity Burger Gold and the new Prosperity Burger Gold Special that comes with hash browns. The Prosperity Burger Gold will be sold for 4,600 won alone and 5,900 won for a set. The Prosperity Burger Gold Special is 5,300 won and with hash browns and a beverage, it costs 6,600 won. They will only be available at the restaurants until Jan. 26, 2022.
Last year, McDonald's Korea sold 1.5 million Prosperity Burgers within just three weeks of its launch, collecting 150 million won ($126.2 million). This year, the fast food restaurant chain will continue the charity promotion with its customers in the spirit of goodwill.
“The Prosperity Burger is McDonald's special menu item for our customers to wish for good luck in the upcoming year. At the same time, it provides a good opportunity for them to participate in a charity event. We hope our customers have a more meaningful year in 2022 and convey good luck to more families in need,” a McDonald's Korea official said.
Meanwhile, McDonald's Korea plans to tell the real story of Hwang So-young and her family members in a TV commercial for the Prosperity Burger. They stayed at accommodations provided by RMHC Korea in Busan and benefited from the charity last year.
Animated characters will appear in the commercial, conveying warm messages to young patients and their family members about why they need RMHC near hospitals.
