LG Electronics drops lawsuit against Dyson

LG Electronics, the nation’s second-largest electronics maker, has withdrawn a suit filed against British company Dyson in Australia.

The British electronics firm has advertised in Australia that its cordless vacuum cleaners are more powerful than any other products. LG Electronics objected to the advertisement and argued that it was false because the company’s “Cord-zero Cyking” vacuum cleaner is more powerful.

LG Electronics said the Cord-zero Cyking has up to 200 watts of suction power, twice that of the Dyson V6’s 100 watts.

LG Electronics filed a suit in the Federal Court of Australia on Oct. 12, saying “Those advertising tactics are misleading consumers,” and requesting the advertisement be withdrawn.

The decision to stop the final injunction was made after Dyson said it will accept LG Electronics’ request. The British company said it will remove two advertisement claims ― “The most powerful cordless vacuums” and “Twice the suction power of any cordless vacuums” ― from all electronics outlets in Australia by Dec. 7.
