In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, Samsung Electronics has partnered with the U.N. Development Programme (UNDP) to launch the “Generation17” ― a set of 17 interlinked goals that are intended to provide a better future for all by 2030.
With Samsung's Galaxy technologies and the U.N.'s development platform, the two entities will support youth from around the world by fulfilling the 17 Global Goals set by the U.N. through the Generation17 initiatives. Their contributions and activities will be shared throughout the world.
“We are excited to better connect these inspiring advocates with their peers, enable their generation to take bold action to achieve the Goals and make their voices heard loud and clear with the latest Galaxy technology and our shared vision,” said Noh Tae-moon, president and head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “With a purpose as grand as the Global Goals, we strongly believe a collaborative, rallying effort will be imperative in sparking meaningful change.”
Four youth leaders ― Maximo Mazzocco (Argentina), Sadya Toure (Mali), Shomy Chowdhury (Bangladesh) and Tafara Makaza (Zimbabwe) ― have been selected for the Generation17 campaign, based on for their active participation in their respective communities to help resolve the problems facing humanity.
Millennials and Gen Z have been influential in catalyzing change with their tech savviness and active use of borderless communication. Through technology these generations have become a great force in initiating global change through influencing policymakers and businesses.
These efforts have become the foundation of Samsung and the U.N.'s joint Generation17 project. Samsung and the UNDP will provide support for the young generation to better fulfill these goals.
“Young people are advancing the Global Goals through their work as innovators, entrepreneurs and advocates, and we must properly engage them today for the success of our global agenda tomorrow,” UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner said. “They harness incredible power in advocating for positive, systemic change, and we must support them in their roles as torchbearers of the Global Goals. This initiative complements other initiatives across the U.N. system, strengthening the foundations for a U.N. that delivers with and for young people through the U.N. Youth Strategy: Youth2030.”
The UNDP and Samsung will provide mentorship, networking opportunities and Galaxy devices to help broaden the reach of each of the young leaders' voices and strengthen their organizations and businesses.
