Hancom GMD secured a contract to supply its forensic kits to investigative agencies in the U.K., a mobile device forensic service affiliate of Hancom Group said Monday.

Mobile device forensic examination is the act of extracting information from mobile devices. The increase in mobile devices has led investigative organizations to conduct more forensic examinations to collect, preserve and analyze evidence during the courses of their investigations.

The company said it signed a contract with the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit and Leicestershire Police in the U.K. to provide its MD-NEXT forensic software for data extraction from mobile devices and MD-RED data analyzing software.

"It is an honor to enter the U.K. market and win recognition for our technological capabilities," said Hancom GMD. "We will strengthen sales and marketing efforts to establish ourselves in this market."

Hancom GMD said the two investigative agencies decided to use its products to collect evidence from mobile devices made by Asian manufacturers, adding that they conducted months-long tests before purchasing its tools.

In addition to securing deals, Hancom GMD also won the Outstanding International Collaboration in a Complex Digital Investigation award at the International Digital Investigation & Intelligence Awards. The firm said this was the first time a Korean firm has been recognized at the awards.

The event, which recognizes excellence and collaboration in digital and cybercrime investigation, was held in London, March 14. During the event, Hancom GMD also promoted its advanced forensic tools that can be used in closed-circuit TVs, cloud computing services and internet of things devices.

Established in 1997, Hancom GMD has become a leading mobile forensic service firm in Korea. It has been providing its products and technological support to about 150 investigation organizations and public organizations and expanding its reach into overseas markets such as the United States, U.K., China, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and India.
