Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Korea named Jose Luis Amador as its new general manager, the firm said Monday.
Amador joined JTI in 1998 and worked in marketing and sales in Spain, Switzerland and Hong Kong.
Over the past seven years, the Spaniard served as general manager of the Mexico branch and successfully launched tobacco brand Winston.
He also regained ownership of the Camel brand from a joint venture. Camel was sold in Mexico by a distributor through a joint venture agreement, but JTI Mexico has commercialized the brand independently since Oct. 2017.
Using his experience at global branches of JTI, the new general manager said he will try to make JTI a top tobacco brand here.
"We'll capitalize on the enormous talent of our organization in Korea to continue offering to our consumers the highest-quality products and services based on their needs," Amador said in a statement. "I will tap into my extensive global business experiences and strive to position JTI Korea as a company that continues to grow."
JTI Korea sells cigarettes such as Mevius, Camel and Winston. The Korea branch was established in 1992 and operates 15 local offices throughout the country.
