The first overseas store of Kakao Friends, a character brand of South Korea's leading mobile messenger, Kakao Talk, did roaring business on its opening day in Japan, the company said Sunday.
The Kakao Friends shop, located in the luxurious shopping district of Omotesando in Tokyo, opened on Saturday, with some 2,000 customers waiting in line, according to Kakao XI, the character licensing arm of the mobile messenger operator Kakao Corp.
The company said dolls of Apeach, the most popular pinky character, sold out on the first day.
"So many people came to Kakao Friends' first overseas store. We never expected it," an official from Kakao IX said. "We will develop and provide new goods tailored for Japanese customers." (Yonhap)
