Keeping North Korea on nuke diet
Are we heading to war? This is not the kind of question that should be casually asked. But somehow, what is happening over North Korea’s nuclear tests appears so surreal that it feels like part of a movie, or an event unfolding in another corner of the world.

Samsung for government
One may rightly feel it absurd to put a private company in charge of government. True, private firms seek profits, while the role of the government is, well, to run the country -- requiring it to serve many different purposes with profit at the bottom of its list of priorities.

President swap (imaginary tale)
President Park Geun-hye is quiet and cool. As the hot spell, the hottest in years, is yielding to the long-sleeve needing chill of autumn, the nation may afford to lend our “Ice Princess” (or Queen) to the Philippines, our friendly country in the tropical region.

Presidential swap (imaginary tale)
President Park Geun-hye is quiet and cool. As the hot spell, the hottest in years, is yielding to the long-sleeve needing chill of autumn, the nation may afford to lend our “Ice Princess” (or Queen) to the Philippines, our friendly country in the tropical region. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is a boisterous, bulldozer-like “get-the-job-done” leader.

THAAD seen through eyes of Chins, Russia
Why is China so upset at South Korea's decision to allow the advanced U.S. anti-missile battery on its soil as to threaten all-out retaliation? Is Beijing’s position identical to that of Russia, its former Cold War ally and rival, now being on the same side once again against the U.S.?

THAAD seen through eyes of China, Russia, US

PMs, Presidents, bring own utensils
Be warned, prime ministers and presidents who are heading for Korea after Sept. 28! You may have to bring your own utensils or get your checkbooks ready for the food you eat during a state dinner at Cheong Wa Dae. Please check the prices of the gifts you exchange with the Korean President. If they are in violation of the new anti-corruption law, it could spell big trouble.

Not all Koreans need to be involved
One of the most profound things that I heard from Howard Fuller, an American activist and one of my mentors: If you plan a meeting for 100 people, but only three people show up, then work with those three people rather than focusing on the 97 people who didn't show up. Then ask those three people who showed up to bring a friend next time.

Enforced disappearances
On Aug. 30, the international community will mark the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearances. This day is an opportunity for people in all parts of the world to reflect and commemorate the missing, to denounce the practice of enforced disappearances, and to advocate for an end to this practice.

'I want my father back'
Hwang In-cheol doesn’t remember what his father looked like. After all, Hwang was only a two-year-old toddler when an airplane his father, Hwang Won, a television program director, was on board was hijacked by a North Korean agent. That was 47 years ago on Dec. 11, 1969.
