On Sept. 23, 1895, William Henry Jackson (1843-1942) of the Transportation Department of the Field Museum of Chicago and a member of World’s Fair Transportation Commission arrived at Jemulpo, Korea. Busan in the summer of 1881 was a powder keg waiting to go off. Busan was actually two distinct settlements: Pusan (the Korean city) and Fusan (the Japanese settlement).
