South Korea’s Lee Earns Gold Medal in Women’s Archery at Paralympics

South Korean archer Lee Hwa-sook earned a gold medal in the women's individual recurve event Saturday at the Beijing Paralympics.

Lee defeated Gao Fangxia of China 103-92 in the final at the Olympic Green Archery Field in Beijing.

Lee led by one point after the first end, but increased her lead when the Chinese archer shot her second arrow for five points in the second end.

Korea's Hong Suk-min, who earlier earned a gold medal in the men's 400-meter T53 race with a new world record of 47.67 seconds, added a bronze in the men's 200-meter T53 with a time of 26.87 seconds Saturday.

Hong will try to earn a second gold when he competes in the men's 800-meter T53 on Monday.

Korean swimmer Min Byeong-eon earned a bronze medal in the men's 50-meter freestyle with a time of 45.75 seconds. He will compete in his strongest event, the 50-meter backstroke, Monday.
