South Korean hockey defenseman Oh Hyon-ho had three teeth knocked out by the errant stick of Canadian forward Mason Raymond on Sunday during the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
But by Monday afternoon, Oh was able to laugh about it and flashed that toothless smile -- the signature of a hard-nosed hockey player.
"I got treated and I am all fine now," Oh said after Monday's practice at Gangneung Hockey Training Centre. "I am going to get implants. This happens to hockey players all the time. And two of the three teeth I lost were fake, anyway."
Raymond got called for a high-sticking penalty, and it was a double minor because Oh bled from the contact. The PA system played U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" as the crew cleaned up drops of Oh's blood.
Oh said he wasn't sure if Raymond actually said, "Sorry," to him, but it didn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
"At least it was one of my favorite players," Oh said of the former National Hockey League (NHL) forward.
South Korea missed out on a couple of scoring chances on that power play and ended up taking a hard-fought, 4-0 loss.
Next up for the 21st-ranked South Korea is world No. 5 Finland in a qualification playoff match, starting at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday. The winner moves to the quarterfinals, and the loser will be sent packing.
"This is a must-win game and we'll not give up until the final whistle," Oh said "We've got to put everything on the line. If we can all sacrifice ourselves, we can definitely play a competitive game." (Yonhap)
