Professional Korean basketball team, the Daegu Orions, moved to Goyang, Tuesday.
The Orions, which have been based in Daegu since the Korean Basketball League (KBL) started in 1997, agreed with Goyang to switch venue.
According to a memorandum the team’s name will change to the Goyang Orions.
The venue for the Orions will be Goyang Gymnasium, which will be completed by the end of June.
“As the Goyang Orions is the first professional team in the area of north Gyeonggi Province, it is meaningful,” an Orions official said.
The Orions won the regular season for two straight years from 2002 to 2003 and took home the championship trophy in 2002 but they have finished last in the standings three of the last four seasons.
The team will ask for approval from the KBL for the move Wednesday and the league will announce its decision on June 27.
