Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin secured a sixth win this season in a match up against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Dodger Stadium, Sunday (KST).
It also marked the 20th victory in just 40 appearances in his Major League Baseball career.
"I think I've been doing well. I'm happy (with what I've achieved)," Ryu told reporters after the game. "As I will keep pitching, I want to win as many as possible. I'll try to stay in shape and prepare for games well."
He allowed 10 hits and two runs in six innings, and comfortably picked up the third straight win thanks to an offensive assault of his teammates who routed the Pirates 12-2.
He threw 109 pitches, striking out four with no walks. He managed to slightly lower his ERA from 3.10 to 3.09.
"I was able to pitch in a comfortable manner thanks to many runs by my teammates in the first few innings," Ryu said. "I gave up many hits but I think it's not bad as I only allowed two runs. I was able to focus better. I thought it was OK to allow one or two runs."
It was also the third straight victory after he made a return from a 24-day absence on the disabled list, which allowed him to move to 6-2.
In the two previous outings, he shone to prove he was 100 percent recovered from a shoulder injury. When he secured his fourth win, he gave up only two runs with nine strikeouts and one walk in six innings, while for his fifth win, he did not give up a base runner through the first seven innings.
Dodgers' manager Don Mattingly spoke highly of Ryu's pitching.
"He seems always to do that," he said of Ryu's high-wire act. "He bends but doesn't break. Guys get in scoring position, they act a little differently and get anxious. He seems to be able to take advantage of that."
The Dodgers staked Ryu to an 11-1 lead ― two runs in the first inning, four in the third and five more in the fourth.
Hanley Ramirez was the biggest contributor of the team's landslide victory with two home runs, four hits and five RBIs, leading the Dodgers to rebound from three consecutive losses.
Ramirez's five RBIs tied a career high for the fifth time. His four runs scored also tied a career best, for the fourth time.
Jamey Wright, who replaced Ryu from the seventh inning, was credited with his second save in 19 major league seasons. He allowed only one hit.
