In the second stage of the World Cup this season, the Korean trio, Ki Bo-bae, Jung Dasomi, and Han Gyeong-hee, beat the United States 207-190 in the recurve women’s team final.
The United States, which has never beaten Korea, failed to break its losing streak.
It is the second straight victory for the Korean women’s team this season. Jung also took gold in the women’s individual event, beating teammate Ki.
Jung joined the national team for the first time this year and won two titles in her second international match. The men’s team came home with just one silver in the individual events and bronze in the mixed team competition.
Korea collected two gold, one silver and two bronze medals in Turkey.
The archers struggled in the women’s team final due to heavy rain and the final score was about 20 points lower than usual.
The Americans seemed close to victory as they finished the first end with a 48-48 tie but then had two bad arrows hitting just five and six points.
After Korea extended the gap to 10 in the third end with a 156-146 lead, the Asians dominated the final end shooting 7-7-10-8-10-9 while the Americans accomplished only 8-8-7-7-6-8.
The national team will return to Korea before heading to Turin, Italy, for the World Championships, where the archers can qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London.
Meanwhile the FITA honored (KST) Korean archer Im Dong-hyun Wednesday as the Athlete of the Week on its website.
FITA said the Korean archer has won gold at the Olympics, World Championships and World Cup Final despite “considerably low eyesight,” saying, “the Korean has had a Roger Federer type of career in archery.”
The 25-year-old, the youngest gold medalist in archery, is still improving, raising his own world record from 687 to 691 in 2010.
“I do not know if I deserve to be called the Roger Federer of archery, but it is true thatwe have one point in common: if I win the individual gold at the London Games, it would also be the pinnacle of my career,” Im said on the FITA website.
Im also mentioned his goals.
“First of all, win the gold medal in the individual competition, and win the team gold medal for the third time in a row,” Im said.
