Three Korean baseball players ― Choo Shin-soo, Kang Jung-ho and Park Byung-ho ― playing for major league teams have been shortlisted for the 87th All-Star Game ballot, MLB announced Monday (KST).
The major leagues announced that online balloting for the All-Star Game, which will take place at the San Diego Padres' Petco Park on July 12, has begun. Through June 30, fans can vote a maximum of 35 times and up to five times in any 24-hour period online.
Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Kang was chosen as a candidate for the third base spot on the National League (NL) All-Star team. The Texas Rangers' Choo was tabbed for the outfield and Park as the designated hitter for the American League (AL) All-Star team.
Kang made it on the ballot although he hasn't played a game this season due to a knee injury sustained last season. Choo was also placed on the disabled list as he injured his calf after playing only five games this season. Park earned the honor in his MLB debut season.
Fans can vote through the MLB's official webpage at mlb.com or on the official home pages of the 30 MLB clubs.
The annual ball game between players from the AL and NL marks the symbolic halfway-point of the season. The Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost will lead the AL team while the New York Mets manager Terry Collins will take the helm of the NL team.
It remains to be seen if this year's voting will beat last year's record. For the 2015 MLB All-Star Game, fans cast a record 620 million votes, surpassing the record of 391 million votes in 2012.
