DAEGU -- Bolt proved he is still the best.
There was no false start. Instead, world fastest sprinter Usain Bolt of Jamaica showed successful race for gold medal in the men’s 200 meters in the 13th IAAF World Championships here Saturday.
Lightning Bolt crossed the finish line with a time of 19.40 seconds, followed by Walter Dix of the United States and Christophe Lemaitre of France, who clocked in at 19.70 and 19.80 for silver and bronze, respectively.
The Jamaican looked relaxed at the start line, showing his usual showmanship, six days after his disqualification due to a false start last Sunday in the men’s 100 meters. Though Bolt was the slowest to react at the start, he quickly powered forward and never allowed the lead.
"I feel great. I'm still the best," Bolt said. "I made a mistake in the 100m but I would have won it."
On the field, defending champions, Blanka Vlasic of Croatia and Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway failed to retain the titles in the women’s high jump and men’s javelin.
Instead, Anna Chicherova of Russia and Matthias de Zordon became the new champion of the worlds.
Chicherova and Vlasic succeeded the same height of 2.03 meters but the Russian made it on the first attempt while Croatian did it at the second challenge.
Zordo threw 86.27 meters for gold while Thorkildsen showed silver medal shape with 84.78.
In the women’s 100-meter hurdles, Sally Pearson of Australia ran for new championships record.
Pearson clocked at 12.28 seconds for gold, setting the third new championships record in Daegu.
