Injured United States sprinter Tyson Gay will visit Daegu during the IAAF World Championships.
The global sports product company adidas has invited Gay and he will make his prediction on the final of the men’s 100 meters as well as attend as a spectator.
Gay is expected to arrive in Korea on Aug. 24.
The 29-year-old sprinter was one of the top contenders for gold against world record holder Usain Bolt of Jamaica.
His 9.69 seconds in the 100 meters and 19.58 seconds in the 200 are the world’s second and third fastest times respectively.
But due to a hip injury, Gay has not made the final American roster.
Gay stole the spotlight in the 2007 worlds by winning three gold medals in the 100, 200 and 4x100-meter relay in Osaka, Japan.
At the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Gay was expected to dominate but a hamstring injury foiled his chance for a medal.
In the 2009 world championships in Berlin, Gay clocked in at 9.71 seconds but he only took silver medal as Bolt won gold in 9.58, setting the current world record.
