Korean forward Son Heung-min of Hamburg SV will undergo surgery for a broken toe and is expected to miss at least two months, the team said Thursday.
The Bundesliga club announced on its website that the operation on his broken left pinky toe has been scheduled for Friday (KST).
The 18-year-old sustained the injury Wednesday during a preseason match against English Premier League champion Chelsea when he was tackled by Ricardo Carvalho in the 91st minute
The injury came just four minutes after Son scored the decisive goal for Hamburg’s 2-1 victory. He was helped off the field by teammates.
“Everything happened so fast. I felt a huge wave of happiness after the goal but then the injury followed soon after,” Son said. “It’s a sad situation.”
Expectations for the 18-year-old forward are soaring as he has netted eight goals in eight games during the preseason.
