Asian Games North Korea wins 1st medal in wrestling

North Korea won its first medal at the 18th Asian Games on Sunday.

Freestyle wrestler Kang Kum-song finished second in the men's 57 kilogram division to give North Korea its first medal at the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.

Kang, 20, lost to Bekhbayar Erdenebat of Mongolia 8-2 in the final to settle for silver. Trailing 1-0 with 3:50 remaining, he lost five points to Erdenebat and failed to recover the deficit.

Kang was supported by Kim Il-guk, North Korea's sports minister, and Won Kil-u, chef de mission of the North Korean delegation, at Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta. (Yonhap)
