I was very happy to see the picture of the three WWF representatives holding the newly released Korean and English versions of the "Living Planet Report 2014" in the Oct. 2 edition of The Korea Times. Thank you. I was hoping to read an article as well, but perhaps that will come at a later stage.
I also saw the cartoon on page 7 of your opinion page in the Oct. 3 edition of The Korea Times. It featured a lemur, a whale and an elephant. One quote came from the Living Planet Report ("Earth has 52 percent fewer wild animals today than in 1970 ...") and the other caption stated: "Death to human beings!"
I was struck by the second phrase, which in fact misses the main message WWF is conveying to the world ― indeed, we are in fact sounding the alarm for human wellbeing. WWF is as much concerned about humans and the living conditions of our planet's 7 billion inhabitants, as we are about biodiversity.
I am sure your talented cartoonist will be able to capture both humor and the real message in future cartoons. Humans can and must live in harmony with nature, as together we make up indivisible life forms on our single planet, which can thrive alongside one another.
Wishing you well, and congratulating you on the wonderful reporting of your team at The Korea Times.
